My friend Meg called me in a panic yesterday and I was exhausted from the croup wars and sick as a dog myself so my only reaction was "So what?" That totally stopped her in her tracks.
I mean, as long as he wasn't having some torrid affair with Hagrid, who cares? |

It seems like such a random announcement. And I agree with Mr. Boton, that the "Obi-Wan Kenobi character" in mythic literature is usually asexual, because his role has nothing to do with romantic relationships or sexuality. Of course, Dumbledore in the books was pretty asexual, but making an announcement about his back story seems to dilute his role in the myth.

I agree. I prefer him to be the asexual mentor.

I find the announcement to be so...out of the blue. I don't understand what bearing his sexual orientation had on the story at all (and if it did, why did Rowling wait until NOW to reveal it?). What's the point?
I'm not going to pop a blood vessel over this--hey, it's only a fiction novel--but I do find the announcement odd. Is a full blown account of his medical history next? |

Is Hermione bi-curious?

What I liked about the fact was simply that his sexuality did not define who he was in the book. He was a major charactor who just happened to be gay. I like
the way that is presented--he's no different than anyone else. He's just gay just like some people are just straight.

I liked that about it too!
